The Christmas shopping battleground

Picture the scene: you’re in the middle of a crowded department store in mid-December. The pre-Christmas sales have started and swarms of fractious people carrying an impossible number of bags are between you and the next gift on your list. You frenziedly rifle through the chaotic displays, tugging at your wool scarf while wondering whether the shop heating really needs to be turned up to the ‘Summer in Nairobi’ setting…

Shopping bliss

Ok, now picture this one: under a blanket of twinkling fairy lights, you stroll from shop to shop with a Starbucks red cup in hand. You’re in the heart of the forest, with scampering squirrels and the odd bold swan waddling around. All your favourite brands are here, from Elemis to Cath Kidston, Joules to Adidas. That Lego Star Wars set that was sold out everywhere is on the shelves in Just Kids. When you’ve shopped to your heart’s content, it’s a short walk back to your Lodge to drop off the bags before a celebratory family dinner.

Yes, Christmas shopping really can be this, well, Christmassy. If you’re joining us for Winter Wonderland, the shops on our Villages are the perfect place to avoid the crowds and pick up something special for everyone on your list – just see our gift guide below.

Win the whole lot

Even if you aren’t coming on a Winter Wonderland break (why not? You’re missing out), you can still make this Christmas extra special by winning everything in our gift guide!

The prize is worth £200 and has something that will put a smile on everyone’s face come Christmas morning. To be in with a chance of winning, we want to know what your Christmas wish is this year. Enter by commenting below or emailing your.story@centerparcs.co.uk

I wish there was less hatred, fighting and poverty in the world.I wish the Syrian refugees did not have to risk there lives and have to give up everything due to fear of others. 6. My dream is for us all to be together, to watch the children find their presents under the tree. To see their smiles and glee on their faces instead i’ll be alone, just me.
For work has me flying to far off places for some that would be a Xmas delight. But oh how I wish we were all together. The 27th instead will be my Xmas night.

  7. I wish for time to be able to stop and enjoy the company of family and friends without the usual rush of daily life. Time to talk to each other face to face rather than be tied to our computer screens. Courage to reach out to neighbours and to extend the hand of friendship to the stranger in the street.

  8. Lucy Craig

    I have a Christmas wish,
    For a tasty dish,
    Of Christmas pud,
    Out in the wood;
    I’d share Christmas cake,
    Down by the lake,
    Have mince pies from home,
    In the tropical dome,
Turn Christmas lights on in the dark,
    At my favourite Center Parc.

  9. christine dickinson

I wish that the wars and unrest currently in this world would end. Then our children will grow up in a world of peace and al the dreams and wishes of each and every other who has commented here will stand more chance of getting their hopes and dreams.

  10. I wish to banish the suffering that my mum has due to her Parkinson’s, I wish my grandma’s dementia to disappear and I wish for a miracle to cure me. I was involved in a RTC whilst 34weeks pregnant and it has changed my whole family’s lives but especially my 2 boys who don’t really understand.

  11. Sharron Machin

That the hospice I work raises through the #givingtuesday the £9000 it wants to achieve to cover the cost of hospice care on Christmas Day . That’s Saint catherines hospice in Scarborough North Yorkshire

  12. michelle halliday

I wish, After reading all the wishes before me, that I could make every one of them come true, I have tears just reading them and I think we have to appreciate what we have in life and share a little love this December, even if we smile at a stranger in the street and make their day, I truly wish everyone a happy, peaceful Christmas and may all your dreams come true.

  13. Julia Caturova

I wish for white, snowy Christmas when in the morning the whole family can just rush to backyard, make a snowman and have a small snowball fight. It would add that little festive touch to this magic day.

  14. Lucy Chester

I wish for peace, I know it is a big wish but really wish there was not wars and fighting. Also wish for snow and spending time with my family at Centerparc this Christmas, it would be so fab to have all of my six brothers and sisters and 14 nieces and nephews together.

  15. My wish is for all my family to be healthy & happy it’s mine & my husbands first Christmas alone as our children have now left home but we are looking forward to our family break to centre parcs (sherwood) in February

  16. Ali Walsh

I’m wishing for a peaceful family Christmas for myself and my girls, for whom I would dearly love to take away on a break. It should be a happy time, but losing there dad this time of year a few years ago is hard on them, and for me, and I would love to see them have fun and smile, especially at this time of year!!

  17. Victoria Rees

I wish for everyone in the world to feel true love and happiness and to be content and thankful, if only for one day- as then even its only the memory of that day- I hope it would help inform how to live for the rest 🙂

  18. Kevin Badger Kilminster

For the wonderful hospice that cared for my lovely mum and nan this year Fairhavens and Little Havens in Essex. This would be a wonderful gift for all the great children and families who access this inspiring home from home environment at Christmas. To see smiles replace life’s challenges for them will be a wonderful thank you from us for the care and dignity they gave our mum and nan this year at the end of her amazing life journey. All the family are toasting in 2016 at Woburn this New Year and being able to give this gift to families using this amazing place at Christmas will help start a difficult Christmas in a positive way and our mum and nan I am sure is looking down smiling.

  19. Emmaline Spoors

My wish, after suffering a miscarriage recently, is to spend a family Christmas together. Overindulge with food, drink and laughter before enjoying a week long break at centre parcs longleat at the end of January. (And wishing for some snow while we’re there ).

    • Charlotte Manville

My dad is end stage Parkinson’s and no longer well enough to spend Christmas with us, this is the second year he won’t be at home for Christmas so I hope your wish comes true ❤️ Parkinson’s is a cruel and scary illness and I wish you and your family a happy Christmas x

  20. Jennifer Knowles

I find it difficult to wish for something. I already feel so lucky in this world. Yes, there is plenty more we could have and things we do without; but by no means does that compare to the way some people have to live there lives. I have a roof over my head, two beautiful boys and a husband…I wish to stay the same.

  21. Claire Tuck

My wish is for a happy, healthy, harmonious Christmas for all (and that my little girl won’t be ill again this year whilst are family all meet at Longleat, a toddler with a temperature is no fun for anyone!).

  22. Lucy Rigley

I wish our village hall could be rebuilt asap – the roof has now fallen in – thankfully everyone had been moved out because of concerns for it but we didn’t expect it actually to fall in. The whole village would love for it to be rebuilt! At least some of this prize would be auctioned in aid of this appeal. Though of course I’d love to keep a few bits for myself / kids!

  23. for peace on earth, health and happiness for all.
not forgetting all the homeless people out there, if we all cook just one extra Xmas dinner and hand it over to a homeless person can you imagine the joy you have brought to there life on this special day. X

  24. Emily Tealady

My Christmas wish is for a slap up Christmas dinner with all my family. We have had a tough year, and Christmas is a time we can get together and look forward to a better year ahead. Having a Christmas meal with all the trimmings would be a great stat to our festive celebrations x

  25. Nicole Farao

I wish for a white Christmas for our then 6 year old. For a day with lots of laughter, hugs, cuddles and fun. Just a relaxed day for us all to enjoy being together, after a very stressful year. A little lotto win would go down as the cherry on top too. 😉

  26. I wish for a peaceful family Christmas. Just the four of us eating what we choose and enjoying each other’s company (& yes, the children probably going crazy over whatever gifts they have been lucky enough to receive).

  27. Robyn Logan Clarke

I’m getting my wish. I’m going to be spending Christmas day with my mum and stepdad, haven’t seen them on Christmas day for 8 years! and to make it even more special we’ll have a newborn baby girl(she’s due next week, yay!)

  28. Liz Wolodzko Holmes

My wish is for everyone to strip back their Christmas just a little bit and remember it’s a time to spend with family and loved ones. A time to relax, enjoy, reflect and feel the love. Life is hectic enough. Christmas needn’t be.

  29. Rachel Clennell

My Christmas wish is for a good nights sleep (2 kids under 3) and that 2016 is a great year for everyone, especially those people I know who have had an awful few years. My long term wish is of course to save up enough money to visit Centerparcs, have heard some fab holiday stories x

  30. teresa larkins

my wish is for, everyone to enjoy what they have, and not what they have NOT got. not only enjoying their family and friends, but remembering the good they can do throughout the year ,and sharing their Christmas with people who are less fortunate than ourselves.

  31. Sarah Farmer

I wish that there is happiness in the lives of children without any, may the elderly be loved and cared for and may stressful mums/dads/caregivers be able to locate the prized presents, oh and remember puppies may look cute at Christmas, but their are for life!

  32. Sarah Farmer

I will say it again, because I have put in a spelling mistake! I wish that there is happiness in the lives of children without any, may the elderly be loved and cared for, may stressed mums/dads/caregivers locate the prized presents and oh, remember puppies may look cute at Christmas, but they are for life!

  33. Emma Jones

I wish for a white Christmas, but I won’t hold my breath! This year then, I wish that I manage to pull off Christmas lunch for everyone, its my first time cooking it for guests and want to get it right so they come back next year!! I’m picturing everyone sat around the table, laughing and joking and having a fun and happy day! Happy Christmas! 🎅🎄

  34. jude tracey

I wish that the lady who has posted below her husband has parkinsons. ..Suzanne Durham
( see below ) wins and gets her wish and gets to spend Christmas with her husband . This prize would make it special for her and family.

  35. Mandy Clifton

My Christmas wish is for my mum to remember my name and recognise who I am, after several strokes she now has vascular dementia which is a heart breaking condition that strips people of their memory and dignity. X

  36. Jemma Hodgson

I wish for my mum to be well enough to enjoy Christmas, and for my family-in-law to be able to enjoy themselves despite the death of their father a couple of months ago. I wish for smiles and no illness, so that everyone can feel the joy of this special time of year.

  37. Maria Brown

My christmas wish is for all the nasty things in this world too stop, for world peace too evolve and ill people too have good care they need, I wish people would think of the much less fortunate people of this world

  38. My wish is for everyone to get their own Christmas miracle this year. Whether it be Helens daughter finally sleeping through the night, Sharon’s work reaching their fundraising goal, or for some people in the world getting some peace from the violence. I think this world is in need of a little magic at the moment.

  39. I wish that everyone’s dreams shared above & below my comment come’s true and that everyone who has entered in this competition wins a prize so that all can share the joy’s of Christmas with a little surprise from Center Parcs..!

  40. Laura Marie

My wish is for good luck so that everyone receives what they truly deserve, be it happy times with the family, peace for someone who is going through a hard time or maybe that little bit of snow to make this time of year feel a little bit more magical! However big or small everyone deserves to have a very Happy Christmas xx

  41. Rose Elise

My Christmas wish is to see my parents, who live five thousand miles away in America! We won’t get a chance to see them until next year, I don’t think, so my wish will have to come true only over Skype.

  42. Nicola Tayler

My wish is for my mum to be told she is cancer free following a scan she has booked in December. This time last year she was dealt the news that she has non Hodgkin’s lymphoma so fingers crossed

  43. Eleanor Ward

My Christmas wishlist is just to spend time with my boyfriend and family. It’s our first Christmas in our new house and it’s been a stressful year! We have our tree up already and can’t wait!

  44. Karen Furnival

I wish for a lovely family Christmas as my husband is 5 years clear of having a brain hemerage which happened at the beginning of December and he was discharged at 6pm on Christmas Eve, booking the winter wonderland break is to take the childrens minds off what happened.

  45. Emma Scott

I wish for those who are lovely will feel loved. I wish that those people who sometimes aren’t given choices are given the choice. I wish for those who have lost their voice will find it. I wish that everyone who deserves a second chance will have it. I wish for everyone to experience Christmas lunch. Most of all I wish that all my family and friends know how much I love them and they get all the happiness that they could ever hope for.

  46. Emily Corrigan

I wish for many more happy years with my four young children after being diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this year and nearly not making it through it. This will be the first year for a while that we haven’t made it to Centerparcs for the Christmas period. But please God I’ll be able to bring them along next year to see the joy in their faces again. Life and happy times are precious!

  47. Claire McCarthy

I wish that Jeremy Hunt would stop trying to impose a grossly unfair and unsafe contract on junior doctors. Many of whom won’t see their families on Christmas Day because they will be working.

  48. Tracy Carrington

My wish is for my best friend to have a better 2016 as she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in May, had a mastectomy and been battling through Chemotherapy all year and starting Radiotherapy over the Christmas period. I would love to donate this prize to her, her husband and 3 children to put a smile on their faces. Despite her own trauma and immense pain, together we have raised over £4750 for Breast Cancer by holding 2 events this year and I would love to repay her for showing such strength this year by giving her this prize

  49. Hazel Pearson

I know its a bit soppy, but I really wish this Christmas everyone manages to find a little peace within themselves – so much going on in the world at the moment, a lot is playing on people’s minds…so I just hope that everyone remembers why we’re here and has a special day full of memories to treasure…. #TeamLove

  53. Frances Duke

I’m a nurse & I’m working the Christmas Eve night shift, I look after poorly & premature babies so my wish is that all Christmas babies are born healthy so they can spend it with their families. I also wish my son sleeps well for his dad & I’ll see him when I wake up at lunchtime.

  54. Charlotte Manville

I have already sort of received my wish, as a nurse i usually work Christmas and this year after hardly seeing my family I have been allowed some annual leave over the Christmas period so for the first time in the 10years iv been with my hubby we have two weeks of together and with our beautiful children. I am so exited…..I have also booked a week away for us all in centre Parcs as my hubbys present from our children so I’m also very excited to give him that. So my wish is a bit of a cheat as it was to have some time with the people I love most as iv been away from them all so much this year and iv been given that gift and I feel so excited and blessed

  55. Last week me and my girlfriend had major problems but it’s resolved and it’s not a story but to celebrate our happiness and having chosen both of us for our future. We coming to Woburn center parcs next Friday. Thank you center parcs you’ve played a massive part in our lives.

  57. Shelley Sheridan

My Christmas wish this year is for people worldwide to be kinder to each other, to be more tolerant and for peace and harmony to reign. Within my family we have Christians, Bhuddists, Moslems and Non-believers – we all love and respect each other for our individuality rather than focusing on what might divide us. Wishing you all a Christmas full of peace and tranquillity with your loved ones.

  58. Lisa Smith

My Christmas wish is for my 7 year old son who has autism, to have the most magical time during our Winter Wonderland break at Sherwood. He has made me extremely proud this year, so I decided to book a surprise family break as an extra special Christmas treat for him. He knows he is visiting Santa’s Grotto but has absolutely no idea where. It’s very exciting!

  59. Kirsty Gray

I wish for snow this Christmas so my daughter can experience all he magical fun she reads about in her Winter Tales book, building snowmen, sledging and Santa’s footprints in the garden on Christmas morning.

  62. ^•^ Little Owls ^•^

My top Christmas wish is to get better from an illness that has lasted over 6 years. If that’s not possible, for my family to be happy and healthy and for us all to enjoy each other’s company this Christmas xx

  63. Alice Griffiths

My 4 year old son has an autistic spectrum condition amongst other things.

Christmas time is a nightmare. Shops are full and over whelming, so much change in routines that is the causes of a lot of anxiety and sensory overloads.
Confused little children seeing strangers in suits and unpredictable decorations everywhere. A tree indoors? That you put decorations on? How confusing for little people with this disability.

My Christmas wish is for everyone living with autism to have a fabulous uneventful Christmas with everything running smoothly 😍 No anxiety, no overloads, no confusion and no upset. Which is all we can hope for.

Also if your out there Santa, giving my son the gift of speech would be an added bonus 😉😍

    Merry Christmas everyone ⛄️🎅🏻

    • Lisa Minnis

I understand where you are coming from. My son also has autism. It doesn’t get easier but becomes more manageable as they get older as we can learn how to help them. Wish you all the best x

  64. Francine Francois

My Christmas wish is for my family to be united together, at the moment we are scattered all over the world and I miss family Christmases playing charades, pulling crackers and staying up late on Christmas Eve to spy Father Christmas!

  65. Kelly Nuttall

2015 has been bitter sweet for me and my family. We’ve had numerous losses this year. Mother, auntie, grandma and friend, all lost too soon.

Our daughter being diagnosed on the autistic spectrum and us all finally understanding how we can help her = one happy 14 year old daughter at last.

We’ve found new family that we didn’t know existed. A secret well kept for 49 years = an older sister for my husband (a gift from the grave).

A promotion for me = a sister post on a neonatal intensive care unit looking after teeny weeny sick babies.

Out of all this I have learned how to cherish my family, to be strong when I feel I can’t go on, and to enjoy life to the full.

My Christmas wish is to continue to cherish what I already have, and continue to enjoy this amazing life.

Oh and I will be enjoying my Center Parcs Winter Wonderland break next week and wishing for the rain to turn to snow 🙂

  66. Sally Henry

This will be the first Christmas that me, my husband & kids have had at home. Every other year has been spent dashing between different relatives (trying to keep everyone else happy) but not being any fun at all for us! So this year I am wishing for it to be a magical, relaxed, stress-free and happy day.

  67. Catherine Booth

All I want for Christmas is my family and friends to be happy and healthy, cliché yes, but true!
I would also like my daughter to have the paw patroller……. Can’t find/buy it anywhere!!! 🎅😉

  68. Kelly Anne

My Christmas wish is for the whole family to get together for a Christmas meal. We are quite a large family and spread out over Europe so would be lovely for one day for us all to sit together to make memories

  69. Audra Bland

  72. lorrainejohnson

    My ideal present
would be some pretty low heeled party shoes, that are COMFORTABLE!! I have bad
arthritis in my feet & always have to wear sensible shoes, so party shoes
that I could actually wear rather than just look at would be a dream come
    true!

  73. Cristín Williams

My Christmas wish is that my husband has a great day it’s the first Christmas he has been home in two yrs and not away with the raf! I also hope he has listened to all my hints and has gotten me the perfume I really want!

  74. Alisonkendall

This would make this Christmas a whole lot better for me. Not able to go Christmas shopping this year due to illness and sick pay doesn’t pay much when you’re off work for months.
I know my family and friends would love these treats under the tree. Fingers crossed 💜😊

  75. Jeremy Rance

I work in a hotel and am working xmas day and boxing day and new years eve, so my wish is that all the customers are nice to me and give me a few tips so I can treat myself in the January sales

  76. Laura Davies

My wish this year is simple, I just want my family to be together to celebrate Christmas Day and for my children to have a magical, wonderful time. I wish we all have a happy and healthy 2016!

  77. Stuart TheEclipse Seels

My christmas wish is for my wife & I to both be in good health this year as in our 10 years together, we have only had about 2 Christmases where we were illness free. Last year was a double whammy & we both completely missed Crimby 🙁

My Christmas wish is that Suzzanne Durham and Charlotte Manville below get to have there Christmas wish. I really hope they get to spend there Christmas with there fathers and that they make the most amount of memories for years to come.
I know how hard it is to loose your Father so I know the pain they feel.
I hope they really have that special day them and there fathers deserve. Really makes you think about how useless presents are compared to your family.

    Merry Christmas

I wish for the world to be a happier place where Our children don’t live in fear of terrorism and future wars, for cures to be found for cancer and for families to live life to the full appreciating those around them. It’s not going to happen overnight but We can dream & in the meantime blow away the years cobwebs on a trip to center Parcs and ride those Rapids with the wind & crisp cold air blowing our faces , the crackling logs burning on the cosy fire whilst snuggling up to our love ones. I missed out on booking a winter break so it’s all in my dreams this winter but will make sure I have one booked for next! Merry Christmas all & enjoy winter wonderland xxx
