Where did the idea of Adventures of the Senses arise?
Adventure of the Senses is the latest activity following the significant guest research we carried out before introducing Activity Den in October last year. Our research told us that Center Parcs guests want to get outside, enjoy the forest and have fun taking part in activities together, as a family, whatever the weather and age of their children.

With the success of new and unique activities such as the Forest Crafts range and Den Building and Decorating, Adventure of the Senses is our biggest development to date in looking to bring to life new and exciting activities for the whole family to enjoy together.

What was involved in creating the course and where did you take inspiration from?
Our external partners, In2Action, who worked with us in creating the new range of family adventures, were brought in alongside the Elveden Forest General Activities team and myself. We’ve been working on this activity together for a year. As the activity is all about our senses and our woodland friends we share the forest with, that’s where we started.

“It doesn’t matter if you are 6 or 60, you are going to have fun on this activity and even learn a few interesting facts along the way”

After having a clear steer from our guest research, we developed the concept from scratch, from sitting in a room with lots of flip chart paper, to finding out everything there is to know about bats and foxes, owls, hedgehogs and moles. We then had to look for the right location on Village, find local suppliers to build the route, source wood carvers, devise the individual activities and create the activity booklet for the course. We had a task in ensuring it was easily understood, while keeping it challenging but achievable and, of course, fun!

What sets this activity apart from all others on the Village?
It is a true family adventure. It doesn’t matter if you are 6 or 60, you are going to have fun on this activity and even learn a few interesting facts along the way. We have tried to create something that all guests can take part in together, based on nature, exploration, self-discovery and family interaction. It is a completely unique activity that encourages families to work together by moving through a series of challenges, pitching their senses against our woodland creatures.

Who will enjoy Adventure of the Senses?
Everybody visiting Elveden Forest can enjoy this activity. With many sessions throughout the day, every day, there should be 45 minutes in everybody’s break to have a go. Every detail of the activity has been carefully designed to ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy, so the whole family can embrace the experience together.

Of all the sensory zones, what’s your favourite and why?
In each of the five zones there are two activities to take part in to ‘earn’ your puzzle piece but also some extra things to have a go at. My favourite is in sound, after the activities there are some giant sound tubes and a pitch perfect set of chimes you can bang out a tune on – loads of fun!

Are there plans to bring Adventure of the Senses across the other four Center Parcs villages?
For this year it’s an activity unique to Elveden Forest. We will be really interested to find out what guests of all ages think about Adventure of the Senses. If they really like it we will be looking ahead at the next suitable Village to further develop our latest family adventure in 2016 and beyond.
