For men (and some women) around the world, it’s one of life’s weightiest conundrums: how—and where—to pop ‘The Question’. Assuming you want the answer to be a resounding ‘yes’, the choice of location is top of most groom-to-be’s list. As every aspiring groom should know, some scenarios capture the mood better than others. Remember, she will be telling the story of how you proposed to friends and strangers for the rest of her life! Of course, the most important point here is that it’s a declaration of love, but no woman wants you to shove a box under their nose while watching Coronation Street, as you say: ‘What do you reckon, then?’
Certain classics stand the test of time: the sunset stroll along a deserted beach; the postcard moment in front of an iconic backdrop; the candlelit dinner at a favourite restaurant…
All of these locations are available at Center Parcs and over the years we have been the setting for many romantic and memorable proposals. Even our own employees choose Center Parcs as their special spot. Here are a few of our favourites:
Leigh Mynott proposed to his girlfriend Lauren Drinkwater in the rapids at Elveden Forest. They had met eight years earlier while on the rapids and he wanted to propose in the pool where love first struck. The Elveden Forest team closed the rapids and ushered both families into the middle pool as Leigh and Lauren whizzed down the rapids. At the end of the pool, Lauren was rather confused and didn’t suspect a thing until Leigh got up onto the bubble bench before dropping to one knee, holding a ring, and asked her to marry him. She said yes!
We know our guests love using the chalkboard to leave messages, but surely this is one that will always be remembered. Kimberley Jayne Watkins’ and her boyfriend visited Sherwood Forest to celebrate her birthday, but the pair had much more to celebrate as he popped the question on the last night of her holiday with this romantic chalkboard proposal.
Aspiring groom Peter Green planned this surprise proposal to girlfriend Heather Bloom on the beach at Elveden Forest. In front of family and friends and with the sun setting, this romantic candle-lit message was the perfect way to get her attention. And it worked!
Phil and Della
Just last weekend Phil served up this perfectly sweet dessert for girlfriend Della in Italian restaurant Strada, at Sherwood Forest. Phil got down on one knee in the busy eatery and – with cheers and applause from fellow diners – she said yes! We wish them both a wonderful future together.
We hope this has inspired you; perhaps you are busy planning a surprise for your loved one for your next break? Let us know, we won’t tell!
