An adventure in the woods: write your own short story

Help your little ones fall in love with creative writing with this interactive adventure story that puts you at the heart of the action...

As part of our collaboration with the Enid Blyton association to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Famous Five books, we’re bringing you ideas for creative and inspiring family adventures so you can enjoy an active family break this summer.

Did you ever find yourself reading about the adventures of George, Julian, Anne, Timmy and Dick and wish you could be the one exploring coves, cracking codes and foiling smugglers? This interactive short story allows your children to put themselves in the middle of the adventure, stimulating little imaginations and igniting a love of reading and creative writing.

Click on the cover to the left and use the list of options, plus your own imagination, to fill in the gaps and build a story about you and your best friend having an adventure in the woods. When you’re finished, design your own front cover, punch holes and tie the whole thing together.

Particularly proud of your masterpiece? We want to see it! Show us a photo of your finished creation on Facebook, on Twitter, or email us at

Now that you’ve written your own fictional adventure, why not build a top secret den and learn how to talk in code like a real life spy?
