Evening round-up: Sun sets on Woburn Forest’s first day

What a day! As the sun sets on Woburn Forest for the first time as a fully-fledged Center Parcs Village, it’s amazing to have witnessed the staff perform seamlessly as if today had already happened 100 times.

In my previous blog post you read how the Housekeeping staff, Marion and Christine, were just putting the finishing touches to the Lodges ahead of 3pm, the time that guests can get into their accommodation. On my way to visit the Dreambooth (I’ll come on to that in a moment!) I spoke to a mum and daughter who had just arrived in the early evening and had already got a glimpse of their forest home for the weekend.

Mum Gill and daughter Taryn, 12, from Litchfield, said: “We’ve come to see the new Center Parcs!” Taryn tells me she’s particularly looking forward to trying out the Tornado in the Subtropical Swimming Paradise. “We come to Center Parcs for the pool, they are just the best,” says Gill. “We’ve just been into our accommodation, a 3-bed Woodland Lodge, and it’s beautiful. It’s as you would expect from a brand new Village – really sleek and very polished.”

Say cheese!
I head off toward the Village Square, to see our Dreambooth being put to use in the entrance of the Subtropical Swimming Paradise, just in front of the viewing window next to ParcMarket Express. We decided to install the booth – which takes passport-style candid photos and records video – to give our first guests a memento of their time at Woburn Forest that they could take home and keep. And boy was it popular! Head to our Facebook page tomorrow to tag yourself in the photos taken, or to have a peek at what you’ve missed out on.

The social media team and I managed to sneak in a quick trial photo – just to make sure it was working properly, of course!

Wayne’s world
As the blue skies faded and the sun crept into bed for the night, I was lucky enough to catch Woburn Forest General Manager, Wayne Matton to get his thoughts on how the day has been. “What can I say? It’s been remarkable, couldn’t have asked for better. We’ve had a beautiful day with glorious sunshine and everything has gone really well. Guests have been incredibly happy as they’ve arrived, which isn’t surprising to me when looking at what’s on offer.

“The Village has looked stunning after all the hard work that the team have put in. I’m absolutely delighted and what an experience for guests. My highlight has been talking to them all; the response I’ve been getting back is that they can’t believe this is here now after waiting for years.”

Speaking of years, is what now for Wayne? Time for a celebratory drink? “I actually want to try to put my feet up – I just need a good ten minutes after today! I won’t be going home to have any Champagne though; I’ll be here all weekend to ensure it goes smoothly. And you know what? I’m loving it.”
