It’s beginning to look a BIT like Christmas…

It's just four weeks until the magic of Winter Wonderland will settle on all of our five Villages for the first time. We went to catch up with how preparations are getting on at Woburn Forest

For its inaugural year of Winter Wonderland, Woburn Forest is pulling out all the stops. The preparations are already well underway to spread the magic to our fifth and newest Village. In four weeks time, on Friday 6th November, the twinkling lights will be switched on and Santa will make his debut.

The Woodland Workshop and other buildings in are now in place, so we asked Leisure Services Manager Steve Robinson – the man in charge of bringing the magic to Woburn Forest – to give us an update.

“A lot of the construction work is now finished, but it’s not looking particularly festive just yet. We’re in the final stages of preparing for the internal and external decorations to arrive to make everything Christmassy. That work will start on 20th October.

“We dipped our toe in the water last year with Seasons Greetings, a paired down version of Winter Wonderland for the newest Village, but this year we’re going all out, which means a lot of staff training.

“This week, we had a day of training at a nearby reindeer farm to learn how to handle Santa’s friends for real when they arrive in November.

“We’re having a coffee morning today with all Santa’s elves – they fly in early to help us get ready for the big man himself. Our fantastic staff are learning about the special Christmas activities that will be on offer, such as Festive Cupcake Decorating and making reindeer hobby horses.

“The whole Village family is getting excited now. As our first year, we’re really looking forward to delivering the magic of Winter Wonderland to our guests through a combination of the Woodland Workshop, activities, our pyrotechnic display and, of course, Santa himself. It will become a fantastic part of our yearly calendar at Woburn Forest.”

After catching up with Steve, we spoke to Director of Operations (the man who makes things happen), Chris Ruston.

How are the preparation for Winter Wonderland at Woburn Forest going?

Everything is on schedule. Santa is arriving on Friday 6th November and his newly built home will be ready for him. There’s a whole army of people at Woburn Forest who are putting together all the festive touches, and everyone’s very excited about what’s to come.

What’s the most exciting part of the transformation at Woburn Forest?

For me, the most exciting part is seeing Santa’s Woodland Workshop come to life, and the smiles it will bring to everyone’s faces. It has a spectacular location next to the lake and all our Winter Wonderland guests will be drawn to it.

What does this first Winter Wonderland mean for Woburn Forest?

The team at Woburn Forest, led by Steve Robinson and Brad Purnell, have worked incredible hard all year to make the magic happen. We really believe that Center Parcs is the best place in the UK for providing a magical Winter Wonderland experience, and everyone down there is eagerly waiting to see how our guests enjoy Santa’s new Woodland Workshop and all the other special touches we’ve created.

Looking forward to bringing my daughter Grace her partner Ross and my two grandchildren to the winter wonderland at Woburn. It’s been a bit of a tough year for them after he got knocked off his bike and suffered a broken leg and foot, and in the same month my daughter went into premature labour. So I know Center Parcs is just what is needed and the winter wonderland will be an added bonus.
