Behind the scenes at the Activity Den

It’s no surprise that our colleagues play an important part in your Center Parcs experience. From Guest Services to Housekeeping to General Activities, our teams work hard to make sure you have an exciting and enjoyable time here at Center Parcs.

We spoke to Charlotte Potter, an Activity Den Instructor at Whinfell Forest, about her role, her favourite activity, and what she loves most about working for Center Parcs. Charlotte has worked at Whinfell Forest for seven years, and has lots of experience in running a variety of activities, from hair braiding to cupcake decorating and face painting – but her favourite activity is the parent-accompanied Crazy Science!

What is Crazy Science?

Crazy Science is a one-hour session, which generally runs on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons and is suitable for children aged 3-7. During this session, you and your little one will take part in a range of experiments - making slime and a volcanic eruption to name a few. It’s a great way to have fun and explore the wonderful world of science!

What happens behind the scenes?

What parents and children don’t see is how much preparation takes place before you arrive, Charlotte explains. “Setting up and preparing for the activity is important, as it takes time making sure all equipment needed is precise and safety measures are in place, often with a quick turnaround between sessions”.

What do guests think about this activity?

“This activity is always popular, and always gets booked up! Crazy Science gets everyone involved, and the parents love it!”

This activity gives you the chance to learn some fun and interesting facts, including why and how the experiments work, Charlotte explains. “At the end of the session, parents often come up to me and say how much they enjoyed the activity, and how they didn’t expect to learn so much from it!”

What do you like most about Crazy Science?

“My favourite part about this activity is the children’s reactions to the experiments - especially the volcanic eruption! To see the smiles on their faces when they’re excited about the result is so rewarding, knowing the little ones are having a great time”.

What do you most enjoy about working at Center Parcs?

Charlotte says that feeling like part of a big Center Parcs family is what makes the job special. “Once you become part of a team, it doesn’t feel like you’re going to work - and that’s what makes working at Center Parcs so enjoyable.”

“Receiving guest feedback is also extremely rewarding - finding out the positive experience guests had during their time at the Activity Den really makes you feel like you’ve given something back. Knowing that your job has put a smile on guests' faces really makes it worth it”.

Did you know that there are 15 different activities available at the Activity Den at Whinfell Forest?
