Ever wished you could just jump and land in a different location? If you’re ready to dip your toe into the exciting world of special effects, here’s our step-by-step guide on how to create a ‘jump cut’ video.

If you follow us on Instagram you may have seen our take on a recent video trend, ‘the jump cut’, where people film themselves jumping in one location and landing in another… as if by magic! We’ve created our very own take on this trend, where you jump and land in different locations around our villages - and we want to see your recreations on your Center Parcs break. Follow our step-by-step guide on creating your very own jump video, featuring all the activities and adventures your family enjoyed during your break. Jump from your lodge to the Subtropical Swimming Paradise to Archery to exploring the forest - the possibilities are endless. It’s a unique way to capture all those experiences for you and your family to look back on later.

How to make a jump cut:

Choose your tools

You will need a smartphone to film your jump cut. To help you put it all together, you will need to choose a tool to "edit" your video too. Our favourites are Instagram Reels or Tiktok, or if you’re a little more advanced you could use video editing software. To keep it simple we’re going to show you how to do this using Instagram. To use Instagram, film your separate clips on your smartphone first then put them together in Instagram Reels.

Film your jump cut

Film your separate “scenes” using a smartphone. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Set up something to hold your phone while you film, like a tripod or ask a camera-shy family member.
  2. Click record then get in position. A line is normally easiest, just make sure you keep to the same position and distance from the camera each location you film. It doesn’t matter that you record the bit of you getting in position, you can remove that bit later!
  3. And JUMP! Make sure you all jump at the same time, practice makes perfect!
  4. Remember that you need to jump twice in each clip - one will be you landing in the location, and in the other you’re jumping out of it
  5. Repeat this process around all your favourite parts of Center Parcs.

Edit your jump cut

Now you have all your clips, it’s time to put them all together! Remember we’re using Instagram Reels, but you can use any video editing software you’re comfortable with.

  1. Open Instagram Reels.
  2. Go to create a new reel, then add all of the clips you’ve filmed.
  3. Once all your video clips are in order, the next thing to do is cut down each video to just your jumps. You need to crop the video as you land in the location and as you jump out. The best way to do this is crop it while you are on your way down from the jump and in the next video crop this to a similar point where you left your last one. Repeat throughout the rest of the clips - these should flow into a seamless jump cut.
  4. Add music and a description using #mycp and post.
